Inner and
outer visions
Susan paints
what she sees, non-verbal, heart-centred, visions. These illuminations
are documented in unique, often dissimilar ways, the only obvious
continuity is colour. Susan has been a painter from the age of 13 and
studied drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
She worked as a scientific illustrator for National Museums of Canada,
and other institutions. Susan illustrated three books, The Tuniit,
The Herb Cook Book, and The New Herb Cook Book,
and taught art and design, part-time for St. Lawrence College, and
Algonquin College.

Functional
and dysfunctional ceramic humour.
Constant
interaction with nature offers rich visual resources and insights for
Hugh’s ceramic work. The large ceramic sculptures can be described as
functional or dysfunctional humour. They are created for inner and outer
landscapes. Some pieces are technically challenging, spending as much as
four days in the kiln for the first firing, and often subjected to
additional multiple firings.
In 1997, Hugh built a studio and kiln
started exploring ceramic sculpture. Previously, he worked as an
Industrial Designer, winning design awards, for some of the first modern
Canadian furniture, and creating exhibits for the National Museum of
Canada.
