Jewellery made of beautiful stones
and a special tarnish-resistant silver called
Argentium.

"Folles de
Pierres" - yes, I am crazy about stones, as my sister told me
one day!
In the last year I have
been working with three distinct techniques:
-
Silversmithing using a tarnish-resistant sterling silver
called Argentium, and unique semi-precious
stones - Vitreous transparent enamel on copper or silver,
adding textures and colours with techniques like cloisonné,
plique a jour or champlevé - Chain maille for beautiful
chains, from the Byzantine to the Viking knit, in Argentium
and/or copper
I like the diversity of the pieces I
design and sometimes they combine into a unique
creation.

Black and white landscape
photographs; framed, unframed and multi-image
folios.

Photography starts as an
exploration of a subject and can develop into a conversation
as the subject influences the next image. Like any
conversation, you can start just about anywhere and if it
becomes engaging, you learn something about the other.
The act of photographing focuses attention on the subject,
excluding all else. As I spend more time, different
facets of the subject emerge, pulling me deeper into the
conversation. I become immersed and some of the true
character of the subject emerges. I find black and white
images allow more interpretations without altering the nature
of the subject.

Alida's pottery is functional wheel thrown and
hand built with rich earth tones.
Alida's work is mostly
wheel-thrown though she does hand-built pieces as well.
After she shapes the clay into the form she wants, it goes
into the kiln to be bisqued. The clay is fired at 1888
degrees fahrenheit. Pieces are then removed, glazed and
fired again at an even higher temperature to melt the glaze
onto the pots. Alida is inspired by looking out onto a
field and the earthy colours of the landscape she is trying to
copy onto her
pottery. |
